In recent weeks and months, banks nationwide have went on an binge of adding fees to their customer’s accounts. Paying for the ‘privilege’ of using an checking account or debit card is where many including myself are drawing the line.
I’ve always had an issue when a bank charges more than a couple of dollars to get money from an ATM machine, but this latest thievery from banks takes the cake.
I’ve had an account with a local Credit Union for years. I rarely use it except to get an occasional car loan.
This got me to looking at moving my ‘big bank’ account all over to the credit union, and closing the checking and savings accounts out. As it turns out, my credit union only charges an $1.00 ATM transaction fee. That alone, was enough reason for me to move.
The biggest task that I’ve had is updating all my bills that draft monthly. Once that is taken care of, I will be rid of my bank.
A recent article I ran up on from Seattle shows a lot of other folks have got the same ideal. Over the past 2 months, over 18,000 people have closed their bank accounts and opened memberships in Credit Unions. This is only in the city of Seattle, so the numbers I assume must be staggering nationwide.
As it turns out there, Bank of America is adding a $5 month fee for the privilege of using a debit card.
I’m sure others will soon make the same move to credit union’s in coming months.
Based on the reckless actions of banks in recent year’s, it looks like they are taking another risky action.
