Disturbance over South Florida

The Hurricane Center is monitoring a vigorous tropical wave located over the northwestern Bahamas and the Florida Straits. Numerous showers and a few strong thundertstorms are occurring as the system moves toward the northwest.

The forecast are generally low for tropical storm development in the next 48 hours as surface pressures are high and upper-level winds are only marginallly conducive for development.

However, periods of locally heavy rain and strong gusty winds close to tropical storm force — are expected to occur over portions of Central and South Florida, and the Florida Keys through at least Monday.

Once this system moves more northwest towards the central Gulf, it will have to be watched closely as conditions may become more favorable for tropical cyclone development.

All persons along the Florida and Gulf Coast states should keep an eye on this system. For the latest forecast updates and doppler radar imagery, visit tropicalwx.com.
