1 Dead, 9 Injured by Lightning at NASCAR Race

One of summer’s most deadly thunderstorm threats… lightning strike… occurred this afternoon at the Nascar race in Pennsylvania.

In addition to the one person killed, was nine others injured by a lightning strike at the Pocono Raceway in Pennsylvania this afternoon.

The NASCAR Pennsylvania 400 had just been called off after 98 of 160 laps. Fans were told to take cover as storms moved into the area. The lightning strike was in the parking lot behind the grandstand.

Of the 9 injuries, one person remains in critical condition. There were 85,000 people in attendence at the race.
