Tropical Storm Isaac – Advisories Issued for Florida

Tropical Storm Isaac has strengthened a little more today. The center will make landfall in Haiti tonight.

A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for a large portion of South Florida and all of the Florida Keys and the northwestern Bahamas. Tropical storm conditions are possible in the watch area within 48 hours. A Tropical Storm Warning continues for central and eastern Cuba, Hispaniola, the central and eastern Bahamas, and the Turks and Caicos Islands.

The forecast track brings the center of the storm over Haiti tonight, near or over southeastern Cuba on Saturday, near or over central Cuba Saturday Night, and approaching the Florida Keys on Sunday. It is important not to focus on the exact track due to the uncertainties in the forecast, and the fact that Isaac has a large area of tropical storm-force winds.

Maximum sustained winds are 65 mph. Little change in strength is expected before landfall tonight, with some weakening as the center crosses Haiti and southeastern Cuba.
