More than 15 million taxpayers could unexpectedly owe taxes when they file their federal returns next spring because the government was too generous with their new Making Work Pay tax credit.

Taxpayers are at risk if they have more than one job, are married and both spouses work, or receive Social Security benefits while also earning taxable wages, according to a report Monday by the Treasury Department’s inspector general for tax administration.

The tax credit, which is supposed to pay individuals up to $400 and couples up to $800, was President Barack Obama’s signature tax break in the massive stimulus package enacted in February.

Most workers started receiving the credit through small increases in their paychecks in April. The tax credit was made available through new withholding tables issued by the Internal Revenue Service.

So the people who are the most productive are going to be penalized again. No surprise. These people in Washington really don’t know how a free enterprise, capitalistic system works. We need to vote them out as soon as possible or we are going down the drain financially and will likely be a 2nd rate power within a decade. It is the people who create wealth and prosperity, not government.

Love it or hate it, people smoke marijuana – lots of it. In some states marijuana consumption and posession have been decriminalized, and even legalized for medicinal purposes.

Climate change isn’t going to be free.

A report by Point Carbon, an independent consulting company that tracks global carbon and energy markets, estimates that U.S. climate legislation could push the price at the pump 13 cents a gallon higher.

The increase would result from the cost to oil companies for carbon permits, which they can pass along to consumers.
